Very excited to be speaking at @thegenealogyshow Tickets are still available. Lots of talks to choose from.
I was just looking through my photos from the Viking Festival and wanted to acknowledge the skill and dangers of the re-enactments. Albeit the spears are rubber tipped it’s not for the faint hearted and a lot of training goes into the performance. Considering the dangers during the battle of the 1000 spears (x2). The medics where only on the field twice in one hour of entertainment. Although predominantly male warriors there were a few females 🏹 and warriors.
A brilliant afternoon in Spondon. A free music festival and a Viking festival celebrating 50 years of The Viking society. What a display of Viking life. Boats, weaving, cooking, utensils and of course battle re-enactments. Educational and fun. We had a fab time.On today too. Can highly recommend . #vikefest2022 #lockopark #spondon #ilovewhereilive #history

Talk done and dusted. Now having fun in the main hall. #derbyshirefamilyhistorysociety #dfhs #familyhistory #annoyingancestors #thecuriouspast #silkmill
Just looking through some old diaries. Many start well and then have lots of blank pages. Anyone else do that. I find it fascinating that in 1977 I’m happy to have a £2.50 a week pay rise. To put in context my driving lessons at the time cost £3.50. Oh and in 1974 the £4 hair cut plus a 50p tip. And 50p at the vets!
I have visited many churches and as a genealogist we mainly see it as it was. May be the addition of a small kitchen and toilets but nearly always the uncomfortable pews bolted to the floor. Fixed and inflexible. But change can be good. This Sunday was the first 4All service at All Saints, Ockbrook after building work. New floors, stunning partition, new kitchen and toilets and new individual seats. Not fixed, not uncomfortable and best of all making a flexible space. It looks spectacular. Can’t wait to be back again.
Pretending I’m still on holiday. #cowshed #holidayblues
A fabulous week away with @gemdewhurst and Harrison. Danes Dykes Beach and nature reserve proved our favourite place to be. Handy as it was in walking distance from our cottage. some epic sand castles and forts were built. Which of course the sea destroyed in moments.
An amazing day at the beach with @gemdewhurst and @paternityleavedad .
Just spent an entertaining 30 minutes reading Registers of Habitual Criminals and Police Gazettes. I found it fascinating to read heights, shape of face etc and distinctive marks and peculiarities. I’m currently trying to picture these tats.
Yikes did I really have a house that looked so busy. Very 80’s. Well it was 🤣🤣 thank goodness home decor changes. It wasn’t a good look. We just thought it was.
