I have had a subscription since 2003 and find the link to Family Tree Maker very useful.
Ancestry is changing from an annual subscription to a 6 month subscription. My last annual one which runs out in June 2022 cost me £179.99 – to achieve the same level of access I will not be spending £99.99 every 6 months. I assume this gives ancestry the ability to increase the costs after 6 months instead of waiting a year.

Ancestry has one of the largest collections in the world and if you use family tree maker software (owned by Ancestry) the site enables you to upload your family tree and search other members trees. A useful tool.

I have had a subscription since 2013 and love FMP for the newspaper archives and travel, parish etc. Found that it does have several records not available on Ancestry.
Current yearly subscription for

Plus – £119.99 (this adds 1939 register and Irish, UK parish and military and travel records.
Pro – £159.99 (as above but with worldwide records and newspaper archives)

Their strapline is ‘Bring your past to life’. Their website contains Birth, marriage, death and parish records; census, land and survey records; education and work; institution and organisation records; military, armed forces and conflict records together with newspapers, directories and social history.

Several times I have had a subscription – the search engine is better than through findmypast but if you are going for the top subscription at FMP than maybe it isn’t necessary.
